Genting Highland

8:35 AM Panoramic view of green scenery greets me in the morning.

When checking into the First World Hotel yesterday, I asked the counter officer for a room with good view. The officer very politely explained that the room rate I paid for is those of standard room (with no view), but he said " I give you a room on the highest floor. From the public windows you can get nice view". He did not disappoint me, I have a great view of the Highlands of Genting.

Tranquil view of a tropical rainforest

This morning the mist is cleared and I got this tranquil view of a tropical rainforest. Scenic hills of exquisite tropical green rain forest at an elevation of 6,000 ft above sea level. Year round cool temperature with oxygen rich misty air. Here it is so peaceful and tranquil.

The view from top of First World Hotel is magnificent. Surrounded by mother nature and cool fresh air, what a breathtaking view of the Genting Highlands skyline. The cool and crisp mountain air about 6,000 feet above sea level is really refreshing.

It is difficult to imagine that a 'City of Entertainment' could also at the same time immerse in lush green world of a tropical rainforest.

After breakfast we went immediately to the outdoor theme park. Do remember to wear warm clothing its very cold when the fog started to thicken in the late afternoon with cold mountain air plus fog and dash of rain.

Our second trip in 2007 was not blessed with good weather. See : Our Second Genting Highlands Trip 2007

We booked 2 nights stay in First World Hotel so we actually have only 1 full day to explore Genting High Land. With this limited 1 day all we can cover is the Outdoor and Indoor Park.

Today we spend the whole day in the Outdoor Theme Park.

The temperature is warm just excellent for outdoor activities. But occasionally there are cold mountain wind which is too cold for baby and old people. But by 4:00 PM when the equatorial sun is setting temperature drop sharply and one need a jacket to keep warm.

There are plenty of food outlet and snack kiosks. Our lunch was taken inside the park as every corners you can find some different things to eat and drink. Genting highland is misty throughout the year, but we are fortunate to have a warm sunny day only occasionally covered by passing cloud but no rain.

Majority of the people in Outdoor Theme Park are Malaysian families and young people with happy faces. The most distinctive tourist are the Muslim tourist from Arabic Countries whom we can easily notice the women in black grown and head covered except the pair of 2 eyes.

A feel of
London atmosphere

One can have a feel of London atmosphere here. The London bus, London Cafe, red telephone booths. And that smart looking soldier whom Mr. Bean made fun off while taking a photo with him (in TV) .

The red soldier is either a member of the Grenadier Guard or the Welsh Guard who wears the traditional red coat and Bearskin Hat (the black high cap)

One of the popular rides is hang-gliding Roller Coaster which is not shown in above photo.

In Roller Coaster, four riders fly side by side and get incredible sensation of zero gravity, with the realistic effect of flying like Spiderman A new way of experiencing drops, spirals and swooping turns at very high speed. This is surely not for me. And my son is still too young to meet the height requirement.

We spend this whole day in Genting Outdoor Theme Park. It rained a little in the late afternoon. We did not have time to try all rides and the queue of popular rides were long. Some rides have to be paid separately and not included in the packaged entrance fee.

DINOSAUR LAND” is on a peak and it is nice to stroll around the peak with good panoramic view of the Genting Highland. While walking around we saw a few workers installing a new dinosaur to the park. These Indonesian workers were efficient and well coordinated, in just a couple of minutes they had this new added item fixed on the new spot beside the African elephant. And few minutes later when we took the boat ride pass this young green dinosaur, no one visitor in the boat realize that this green dinosaur was added only minutes ago.

Space Shot is just opposite Dinosaur Land and from this peak one could see the trilled faces of the riders when they were shot up to reach the maximum height.

There are 3 type of rides in Genting Highland : 1) Thrill Rides 2) Family Rides 3) Children Rides.  DINOSAUR LAND ride is under the catagory of family ride.

Dinosaurland

One must wait for a boat ride (with 5 minutes mechanical Dino show) before landing at Dinosaurland.

Below Photo left : Green dinosaur welcome us with a 'big red smile' as our boat ride pass. No one in the boat realize this giant creature was installed only minutes ago.  We are the first batch of visitors to "declare open" this creature for public viewing.

There are 2 Indoor Theme Parks and 1 Outdoor Theme Park.

The Two Indoor Theme Parks are :

1) Genting Indoor Theme Park : This is the first (old) Indoor Theme Park in the highland. Most suitable for young children. For younger children this is a  fantasyland full of fun and adventure.  Xing enjoyed  the super-exciting video arcade game.  In our next trip to Genting in 2007. We will allocate a full afternoon for Yin in the Genting Indoor Theme Parks

2) First World Plaza Indoor Theme Park : This new Indoor Theme Park has more exciting facilities.

More about Genting Theme Park : https://apps.genting.com.my

They added a new rides which was still under construction - the Pirate Ship .

Matahari is a 100 feet -high ferris wheel for families to enjoy a view high up in the air, with 14 gondolas that sit four people each.

The Corkscrew is every theme park's traditional roller coaster; this incarnation takes visitors 90 feet up in the air, then plunges downhill with occasional loops at furious speed. The ride last for about two minutes, with a minimum height requirement of 140 cm. The sheer speed and loops of the Corkscrew roller coaster ride is bound to elicit screams from visitors strapped to cars.

The Flying Coaster is another thrill ride that's not for the faint-hearted; like a traditional roller coaster, visitors swoop and twist through the air, but harnessed instead to a hang- glider contraption that simulates actual flying.

The Flying Dragon is a subdued version of the roller coaster, running on a shorter track without the loops and upside down spins through the air.

The Sungai Rejang Flume Ride is an exhilarating trip on a canoe that follows a narrow waterway. Once it reaches a slide, the canoe careens downhill at wild speeds, causing a big splash at the bottom.

The Rolling Thunder Mine Train at the Frontier Land section of the theme park simulates travel through a coal mine in the days of the Old West. Visitors barrel wildly through dark tunnels build to resemble a mine shaft through rocky mountains, exiting at one point to a view of the lake before returning into the cave.

Visitors on the Rolling Thunder Mine Train will emerge for a few seconds over the lake before speeding back inside the dark tunnels of this thrilling Wild West ride

The Space Shot is one of the Outdoor Theme Park's most popular rides. Visitors are strapped to seats that rise vertically to a 185 foot tower, then quickly hurtled down to create a pulse-pounding feeling of weightlessness.

The Space Shot ride drops up and down in rapid motion once initiated; it's a scary ride that's not for those with weak hearts or bladders.

The Cyclone is a small roller coaster ride that spins around in tight circles to simulate massive wind effects.

Rodeo Rider is a mild version of the Space Shot ride for children at the theme park.

The Pirate Ship is a large ship that seesaws through the air for a dizzy effect.

The Pirate Train is an indoor family ride through a nesting ground of pirates.

Visitors can ride with their children on cartoonish elephants that fly through the air in a circle.

The Monorail is a family ride on elevated tracks that lead around the theme park for a good view of its attractions and surroundings.

The Mini Train is a quiet ride on a long locomotive that winds around the theme park.

The Antique Cars sit about four people each; it's for small families to ride around the park alonside the Mini Train track.

The Genting Highlands Outdoor Theme Park is the highest of its kind in Southeast Asia, perched 1,700 meters above sea level.

The Spinner is a colourful ride that spins visitors attached to seats in an oscillating motion through the air.

The Double Deck Carousel is a slow ride on colourful chariots and horses that spin around aimlessly.

Like the Flying Jumbo, only this time parents ride with their children on colourful space shuttles.
The Crazy Space Lab is a motion theatre that simulates an adventurous journey through space, complete with aliens.

At the cable car stations we saw hundreds and hundreds of talkative Chinese from various part of China but as soon as they reach the mountain top they dispersed and not to be seen in this Out Door Park. Most of these Chinese Tourist come to Genting for something unique and rear to find in their country.

This Outdoor and Indoor Park are to them children playground where they can find more larger and more exciting in China.   Whereas the Casino of Genting is the only few and biggest in Asia that worth a visit for them.

Twice my son tried the Pirate's Train,  an indoor ride through a simulated pirate alcove.

Other rides (but we did not try) :

The Corkscrew Roller Coaster.

The Cyclone, Roller Coaster.

Giant Mechanical Caterpillar. A slow ride through the outdoor theme park on an elevated track.

The Flying Dragon, a family-oriented fun ride.

Genting Cold Mine, a ride on a runaway mine train.

Grand Pix. Racers' delight.

Magic Carpet. A magical experience for thrill-seekers!

Younger children will enjoy rides like :

 The Flying Baby Jumbo,

Teacup,

Pirate Train,

Rodeo Rider and

Astro Fighter.

In the Indoor Theme Park are three more thrill rides - Space Odyssey, Disco Bumper and the Motion Master Simulator that maneuvers around sharp turns and dives into deep gorges, and a rich variety of skill games and video games that can be enjoyed until late at night.
