After visiting two of Guilin's stalactite and stalagmite caves, we learn to be considerate and avoid touching the formations because the natural oils from our hands will "kill" the stalactite/stalagmite, preventing further mineral buildup. Unfortunately, through the years many of
visitors have not heeded this advice, and many of Guilin's beautiful

 10:43AM On the way to see Cormorant Bird catching fish. 16 of us divided into 2 bamboo rafts and enjoy a 5 minutes short ride on the bamboo raft. But before we can see the fisherman fishing, we first "MUST" sing the local folk songs 'against ' three 'Scholars' - (Siew Chai). This part of the tour programme is designed only for Chinese who knows the story of Shanjia Liu. Non Chinese may see this is a meaningless activity. There, at distant of the Li River, are the 3 scholars on another bamboo raft waiting to challenge us with the local folk songs. (see photo below)  On the left is our raft man and on the lady in red Tradition dress is the local guide. After singing against these 3 scholars in middle of the photo in traditional costume. Sorry for non-Chinese may not understand what fun is all about.

Day 3 & 4 (24th & 25th November 2010 Wed & Thu) We arrived at Guilin Royal Garden Hotel on 24-11-2010 and stayed in this hotel for two night (24/11 and 25/11) and checked out early on 26-11-2010. The room number allocated to us is Room No: 2092 a 3 bed room. We are a group of 16 Malaysian Tourist from Sabah (2 from Sarawak) (Group Number C1124) Located right by Li River and across a bridge from the downtown tumult. A lovely hotel a bit away from other hotels. 10 minute walk or short cab ride away from the night market, major shopping and US style fast foods, it is closer to the park and caves. Hotel has an attractive lobby and a gigantic atrium restaurant. Many of the rooms have at least partial views of the river. Has a small swimming pool. The best time to travel in Guilin is from April to October. Now is end of November We came late, but not too late. Try to avoid the two golden weeks, National Day (1 October to 7 October), and Spring Festival in January or February when all the people in China move around. Every year we can read news of their traffic jam and transportation full housed during these 2 holiday weeks. |
