Ants lost their abdomens On the beach we found scattered around are countless big ants with no abdomen. These are big ants with wings. How they lost their abdomens? We guess these ant have wings that can fly, and when they fly into the open air, they immediately fall pray to the flying birds in the sky. Their juice big bully are favorite of the birds. What bird? We are not sure. But must be highly skilled bird of they air. For these bird while flying in the air can catch up with a flying ant and with surgical precision using their bit to plug off only the juice abdomen dropping the head and thorax to the ground. On the ground the ants with only head and thorax but without an abdomen still alive to struggle around. But without an abdomen they do not live for too long. These ants granted a pair of wing to fly but lost their abdomen in return. |

| A small crab on Sabah's shore looking at me. It is a Sentinel
crab Macrophthalmus sp. Family Macrophthalmidae. This inconspicuous little crab with eyes on super long stalks was seen on soft silty muddy shores of Mimpian Jadi Resort. Sentinel crabs do not have one enlarged pincer like the fiddler crabs. Sentinel crabs are also not colorful, usually drab brown with darker mottling.
This lone crab live in the flat world of sand flats
and are active during low tide.
Body is flattened, square or
somewhat rectangular. The eye stalks are long and extend high
above the body. Crab eyes, like
those of insects, are compound eyes. Compound eyes are made up of
large numbers of ommatidia. These eye-stalks fold away into grooves on the body, so the crab can scramble into hiding places without breaking the stalks. |

Driftwood is wood that has been washed onto a shore or beach of a sea or river by tides. It is a form of marine debris. Most driftwood is the remains of trees that have been washed into the ocean, due to flooding, high winds, or other natural occurrences, or the result of logging. Other sources include the remains of man-made wooden objects washed into the sea during storms and the remains of shipwrecked wooden ships and boats. Driftwood can be used as art forms such as this largest driftwood art in Sabah displayed in Mimpian Jadi Resort. |
| These are two other pieces of drift wood arts in the resort. | |

On our way back to
Mimpian Jadi on the
highway we stopped
our car for a group
of horse to cross.
This remind me the
horse riding
activities available
in Mimpian Jadi
Resort before.
Here and there
skinny, brown cows
lie on the roadside.
There is beautiful
giant bamboo. We see
the first ricefields.
In many places the
rice shoots are no
more than a green
haze over the
shallow water. On the roadside stand and lie brown cows with long horns. We also see horses, goats and sheep along the road. Everywhere listless dogs loaf about the streets, sometimes lying in the middle of the road. A year ago Mimpian Jadi Resort was a place for activities some are adventurous such as horse riding, banana boating, play dart, or learn how to make vase using clay in a short course by vase making instructor with your hands on participation. These activities are now no available (unless special arrangement for group activities) |
